The 6th and final VACOP workshop of 2015-16 was held at Artissima Studio with artist Cara Livorio, on April 15. Cara talked with the students about her schooling in Italy, as well as her style and interest in oil painting. Students took time to complete quick sketches with pencils and acrylic paint outdoors, en plein air, before beginning a final painting back in the studio. Cara taught students about color mixing and color theory so that they were better able to create realistic paintings. Some students chose to work in acrylics, while others jumped right into oil paints. The project was a big hit, and many students expressed an interested in taking classes with Cara to continue working on their painting techniques. Cara also answered many questions the students had about running their own educational art studios while still creating work. Many students were interested in Cara’s career in running her own studio.
