Valerie Herrero and Joke Slagle at Carnegie Museum of Art – Experimental Watercolor Painting – November 2017

Valerie and Joke began by facilitating conversations about different kinds of art represented in the art museum, then students proceeded to “collect” art elements from works of art in the galleries that they were drawn to, such as interesting lines, colors, or textures. Back in the studio, students used experimental watercolor techniques to play with the art elements found in the galleries. They created their own artworks inspired by a message they wanted to convey. They used the techniques they learned to communicate their ideas.
