“I always love to introduce my students to a variety of new media that they wouldn’t typically be exposed to in a school environment. So, for my workshop, we utilized Yupo paper, fluid acrylics, pouring medium, metallic gilding, tracing paper, and handmade paper in addition to regular acrylics. When starting, I emphasized and introduced compositional techniques (ex: how to utilize tracing paper when planning composition). Once confident in our compositions, a fundamental element of art that I always stress, l moved through demonstrations of how to utilize the above materials, and the student was able to pick and choose which techniques were appropriate for her piece. At the end of our session, she left with a finished painting that was new in technique, execution, and media than what she was used to working with.”
